I know that most of the music you used is mostly recycled from the Universal catalog (among others) and cleverly used, but this small bit is a bit of a deal breaker for me. However, weren't there any other alternative music than the 1940s one (as heard in The Wolf Man) for the opening ? Because I think it's breaking the experience a bit (especially when you recognize it quickly and knows where it comes from). That was quite a nice touch showing clearly some love to the material. Unless I'm wrong, this one is probably period accurate (which would match other Universal movies from that period, including The Cat and the Canary released two years later). The Universal bumper/aeroplane ouverture & ending (image). Do you know anything more about it ? I'm still reading the Phil Riley book (I know, I know.) trying finding some informations about this, no luck yet. However, like I said earlier, maybe it would have been best if all the title cards were remade from scratch using the same background (the opera curtain and the blank/black one) and alternative typefaces for continuity ? Also, speaking of the optical effect you did on the title itself, why didn't you reproduce the original effect instead ? I'm just wondering because, unless I'm wrong, there aren't any informations on how the original opening credits looked like back then (the Hampton/Show-At-Home print isn't the original as far as it's known today), according to some historians, including Scott McQueen). Nice alternative optical effect and nicely done background. Like I said earlier there was a few things that bugged me a bit. Great job on the title cards (althouth, I think it would have been wiser to actually remade them all from scratch for continuity sake between the new typefaces employed and the original cards, just like it was done for Metropolis).
